I am a fan of the pocket cat. 😻
I’ve been so busy doing a million things i haven’t gotten around to talking about my experience with Defranco Does LA. But here it goes, i’ll keep it brief.
For Defranco Does LA my brother & i had purchased the VIP1 tickets meaning i had the opportunity to meet with Phil prior to the show and even hangout for a bit. We got there late so we didn’t get the chance to really talk with him, instead we ended up meeting Joe & Steve and chatted with them for a minute. There was a brief moment where i did get to say hi to Phil and do a quick photo shoot with him, Joe & Steve. That was fantastic of Phil to do and to have the opportunity of a mini photo shoot with all his fans. Once we got our photos taken we headed over to have our pick of where we wanted to sit. Priority seating was amazing. As we waited for the show to start Kevin Brueck came on stage to entertain us for a bit, then the show began. It was an entertaining full two hours of Phil, Joe & Steve answering questions that the fans had. The show was fun and i’m so happy i had the chance to go.
Even though i only met Phil for a brief moment and barely said all i wanted to say i was glad this happened and wouldn’t trade this event for anything. Phil is someone i highly look up, he was on my bucket list of people i had to meet before i die.
Phil means so much to me because his videos were a part of my early twenties and i’d watch his vlogs for insight and not so typical opinions of things in general. There were times when i felt so pathetic about my life and his videos would make my day. He inspires me to speak out about my opinions but unfortunately it’s still a constant struggle for me to speak up and say what i need to say. I hope some day i can be bold and have that confidence that Phil has to say what needs to be said.
"Don’t let someone older than you talk dwon to you. Age is not an all encompassing thing that you get to wave around and say "i’m right, you’re wrong" because here’s the thing you eventually learn: grown ups usually do not know more, they just have more responsibilities & that just makes them feel right. So desire to have opinions, desire to be different, do not just agree with your parents or me or anything… age really doesn’t mean anything." -Philip Defranco
A thought popped into my head today that I felt was an appropriate way to start this journal out.
The thing that always bothered me about the idea of God is that he gets to always be right. The sky opens up and delivers rain to grow crops. Praise be to him. The sky dries up and the land follows suit. He tests our faith. Praise be to him. Maybe its scarier to think that God is just like us. Riddled with flaws. Imperfect. Angry. Jealous. Quick to judgement.
But lets not forget he is all forgiving. Maybe because if he is real then just maybe he is like us. And maybe thats not scarier. Maybe thats reassuring; that we’re all kind of messed up I mean. That its fine.
But those are just happy thoughts to me. I don’t believe in God. I’m not spiritual. And I don’t cry at night thinking about how one day I’ll die and maybe none of this matters. The world is only a lonely place if you let it be.
So let God be the rainmaker. Let those who praise eventuality and randomness praise. I’ll store my rainwater on the cloudy days for those that are not. I’ll share my water with those who don’t think the same. Not for a seat at the table with an infallible creator but because religion doesn’t matter. People matter.
I wish more people thought like that. That more realized how infinite they think God is, runs parallel to how infinite reality is…then again “reality” is what we make it.
*Greg’s Journal is an entry by entry rough draft short story of one young man’s journey written by some grammatically inept idiot who calls himself Philip DeFranco*
Phil pointed something out that’s completely true: people matter.
I feel like Phil understands the fundamental basis of a Christ-like behavior toward his thoughts on religious matters more than some people who claim to know who God is, because at the end of the day people are the only thing that matter and God knows this. That’s why when you read about how Jesus hanging out with the socially unacceptable rather the religious leaders of his time, he purposely knew that the socially unacceptable were worth his time. People Matter.
I didn’t feel like getting the flower power shirt so i just donated to the cause.
Today is a pretty sad day for me. It’s the 5 year anniversary of when I lost one of my friends. I think back to it and it’s rough for me because there was nothing I could do. And I remember because it was right before I left college and I walked into class and the teacher said “Pluto is no longer a planet,” and I was crushed. And I went through a dark period. Of booze and women and… uranus jokes.
But today we put that aside. We remember the five year anniversary of when we lost our friend Pluto. Stripped of its planethood of so called “scientists”
Scientists who don’t look back to 1930 when Clyde Tombaugh found it, gave it the badass name Planet X - that’s a superhero planet name! That planet would fight crime. And then one day an 11 year old girl from England named it Pluto. No. Not the Disney dog, but after the badass Roman God of the underworld. Then they found out Pluto had three moons - that’s 3x the moons as earth! And so scientists got jealous.
Then they noticed this other spherical thing out there called Eris and then scientists said “Eris Eris Noooo! If it has the same composition as Pluto, but we’re not calling Eris a planet we’re calling it a dwarf planet, Pluto is not a planet.” and then scientists noticed there was a belt that had about 70000 things that had the same composition as Pluto.
And then the IAU had to have a meeting. They said “What constitutes a planet?”
1. Has to orbit the sun — Done
2. It needs to have enough gravity to pull itself into its own spherical shape — Done-zo
3. It needs to have cleared the neighbourhood of its orbit — And on that day the IAU said that Pluto is no longer a planet.
And the universe became a less cool place. Today we remember our friend - the little guy.
Yep. So that was a thing." — Philip DeFranco (via andreachan) (X)
